Almost immediately upon starting this title, I knew it would be amongst my favorite books - that's how well Persaud enraptures us. This was a book about, but more so FOR Trinidad. From the language to the cooking, this was for the ones living in brick New York and seeing their first snow.  For the ones living in Trinidad trying to find their peace. I live for multiple POV stories and Persaud did this amazingly. We jumped time, scenes... it was always done flawlessly.

For all their flaws, I fell in love with the 3 main characters - they were clearly created with love and care and as a reader, I loved that. This is a tale of family, love, and care. How are we loved by the ones we share blood with? Is blood enough to forge a bond - to care? How do we choose our own family & what does that mean to society? To ourselves? Ultimately - what IS family?
