Phenomenal read! I really enjoyed the character work and the world. Loved every scene with the Baron Vladomir Harkonnen and the political intrigue that came with it. I do understand why a lot of people do struggle with reading this book because,in my opinion, the first half is a bit of a slog and drags for way too long. I feel that after the Duke Leto dies the book becomes a lot better. Also some of the characterisation isn't explored as much as I would like, especially since I really enjoy heavy character development. Also there is a lot of telling and not showing. For example, Chani and Paul falling in love isnt shown in action but is just told to us, which is dissapointing. Also, Jessica loving Chani, is told to us repeatedly but is barely showed to us implicitly. So if you do come from a fantasy or romance background, the constant telling and less showing will be dissapointing. Characted development is also minimal but the world itself is phenomenal, rich and dense. Loved the Fremen world, culture and how its linked to the Bene Gesserit. The fight scenes were also really cool. Overall a fantastic book and would recommend, you just have to power through the first half and tolerate the less character-centric writing.
