Love the story concept, hate the characters. Though I suppose that would be the reality of any character written into a setting like 1984’s.
I did not find the part about The Book to be particularly interesting, and thought that a good chunk of pages was given there when not needed.
I can’t help but feel similarly about Julia and Winston’s sexual conquests with each other- I suppose I understand the ‘importance’ of their act, but Julia seems particularly detached on the topic (and about most things, if we’re being honest) and Winston feels as if it’s just a sensation he craved, not so much *actually* desired.
Still, I’m have glad to have read it, especially in my own time and not as an assignment for a class.
