Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella
3.0

Best known for her Becky Bloomwood series Sophie Kinsella's Remember Me follows Lexi as she wakes up after a car accident with no memory of the last three years. Suddenly she has a wrecked Mercedes, swanky loft, and a handsome husband, but she doesn't remember any of it. I always love an amnesia plotline and was sold almost instantly upon hearing this premise. From my experience, Sophie Kinsella books are usually quick and easy reads, and usually a bit of fun. This was exactly that. As a character, Lexi is likeable, similar to Kinsella's other protagonists who always seem to be [putting their foot in their mouth and getting into a ridiculous situation. Due to her amnesia, Lexi feels like she is still 24, although she is, in fact, twenty-seven, however, she felt a lot younger than twenty-four, my own age, which I could see being off-putting for some readers. The story itself feels vapid due to her immature narration which can be offputting, but for the most part, she is harmless. She tends to feel more like a character which int turn affects every other character. They often lacked a depth of feeling and characterisation which leaves you wanting more from them, and they are sometimes treated quite disposable. They appear to give Lexi information about her life pertinent to that moment and then disappear. There are a couple of jokes which don't quite land anymore, and probably wouldn't make the cut if this was published in 2020, but for the most part, it is a light, fluffy read.
