The Echo of Old Books by Barbara Davis

4.0

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the historical love affair and that couple way more than the “present” stuff with Ashlyn, but it was still all great.

- this is so much more than I thought it would be. I am so caught up in this historic catastrophe of a love affair.

54% how could she be mad at him? He already confessed that he has originally come into her life chasing a story. And now she is mad because she has learned the full extent of the story? Can you blame him for trying to shelter her from the true horror of her very own father? He pulled the story. He refused to go public with it. She should WANT the story to be made public so that he no longer controls and manipulates her, his very own daughter. HE KILLED HIS WIFE/HER MOTHER! How can you support him still, when you were already afraid of him before discovering he was likely a murderer?
- I really love the journal/historic couple element, but I feel like Ashlyn’s little romantic situation is rushed and awkward and forced/out of place.

- and this book could have absolutely been done without the psychic element as well. I assume it was used to explain why this random person was so invested in this story, but honestly she could have just been a curious obsessive person without the magic.

I absolutely loved that ending. It was heartbreaking but perfect. I could still care less about Ashlyn. All I cared about was Belle and Hemi. Which were incredibly awful nickname choices but oh well. It was still great.
