This is an incredible adventure. Yes, there are big concepts but Kuang explains them well and they always contribute to the plot. The characters are dynamic and multifaceted. Katabasis is like an adult take on the type of plot found in the Percy Jackson books in the best way possible.
Graphic: Animal death, Body horror, Bullying, Child death, Confinement, Death, Emotional abuse, Homophobia, Mental illness, Misogyny, Racism, Self harm, Sexism, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Sexual violence, Toxic relationship, Violence, Forced institutionalization, Xenophobia, Blood, Grief, Medical trauma, Stalking, Murder, Gaslighting, Toxic friendship, Injury/Injury detail, Classism
This book is about characters journeying to Hell. There are deaths and dark imagery throughout. There’s also moral/immoral depictions throughout. It gets dark at times.
