Lie with Me by Philippe Besson

5.0

5 stars
I was contemplating between a 4.5 and a 5 stars rating but after looking through my annotations and the fact that my tears started falling again it became a solid 5 stars. This book made me feel all kind of emotions.

The writing was so beautiful. The memories of these two lovers when they were young and how their future came to be cut deep in the heart. I haven't cried during reading a book for such a long time. The last page broke me down, especially because of the last sentence: "I just wanted to write to tell you that I have been happy during these months together, that I have never been so happy,
and that I already know I will never be so happy again". There were so many stunning and thoughtful quotes but my favourite one is this: "love was only possible because he saw me not as who I was,
but as the person, I would become". Thank you, Jack Edwards, for the recommendation. Starting my year with a really strong book. If my future partner doesn't love me as unconditionally as Philippe loved Thomas and vice versa, then we're going to be in big trouble.
