There Once Lived a Woman Who Tried to Kill Her Neighbor's Baby: Scary Fairy Tales
by Ludmilla Petrushevskaya
I've never read Petrushevskaya before, and I'm so glad I did. I find her so intriguing. I gave this book 4 stars but at least two of its stories deserve 5 stars: "My Love" and "There's Someone in the House." Both are shattering tales of how easy -- and how heartbreaking -- it can be to misinterpret the passage of time and the lives we mindlessly waste as that time slips away.
