Slonim Woods 9: A Memoir by Daniel Barban Levin

Assigning a star rating to this feels gross and wrong, so I won’t do it. But I will say that this is a beautifully written and viscerally disturbing memoir that walks you through one person’s journey into a cult and back out again. As I read I continually thought of how grateful I was that my younger, more naive, and more lost and unsure self never met someone like Larry Ray because I would’ve fallen for his schemes in a heartbeat. Any of us could if the circumstances were right, as this book makes plain.
