Fear Ground by Jennifer Killick
Did not finish book. Stopped at 62%.
It’s incredibly unfortunate. It’s not even that bad.
The first one was probably my favourite middle grade of 2022, and it really hurts to say this, but I just didn’t feel it. At all. I don’t have the same emotional connection to these characters, and I feel they’re pretty one note. As for the mystery aspect, I simply thought it dragged the horror aspect down rather than elevating it. The book is also perhaps longer than it should be? I’m not really sure. Maybe I’ll reread this in the future and love it as much as the first, but it just did not keep my attention and sort of felt like a slog. I’m really sorry to say this.
I can see though that a lot of other people liked it as much as the first, so I’m really happy for them! It just didn’t particularly work for me.
