in the beginning of the book, our protagonist, grace, takes her luggage out and grabs some of the books she brought with her on the trip. she puts them on the table, one next to the other, and reflects on how books that fall into the thriller genre often promise amazing twists and a story that will keep you hooked, but only a few of them are able to keep the promise. i think this book wasn’t able to keep it. the premise was indeed very engaging - i love me some thrilling atmosphere about a young traveler deciding to take a vacation in a small city in wyoming. but the premise was the only thing to keep me interested here. i didnt care much about the characters and the long and repetitive descriptions made the reading experience tedious. i understood from the first time that grace “isnt like other girls, shes different”, but how many times do i need to read this sentence in a 300~ pages book? why didnt the book try to capture graces spirit through her actions and her way of being, and instead showed me the same sentences, over and over again? reiterating the same points over and over like this makes the descriptions and the dialogues extremely boring to read and it also takes away all the fun a thriller should bring!! atp i dont even care anymore about the story, im just glad i stopped reading! im leaving a two stars on the airbnb app, i didnt like the service calvin offered, see u never again!!

content warnings: alcohol (beers), death of parent (happens off-page), death of a significant other (car accident, briefly mentioned, happens off-page), death of animals (multiple animals die or have died), nudity (no sexual acts in the parts ive read).

keep in mind this list of warnings is most likely incomplete. feel free to lmk which cws are missing so i can add them, thank u!
