The Secrets We Kept by Lara Prescott

2.0

There is unfortunately nothing inventive or moving about The Secrets We Kept. There is a sea of minor characters who are noncontributory as well as two plot lines that never join. The two plots are only held together in that one woman is a spy who briefly works to aid in the publication of a contraband book, which is the other far more interesting story. The story of the female spy and her woman lover felt like an off hand way to insert a lesbian romance into a modern novel. It detracted immensely from how much I wanted to know what was happening in the OTHER story with Boris Pasternak. I’m so disappointed in the squandered potential.
