For most of this book I was kind of surprised by how much people love it because it was mostly just a play-by-play of everything that happened to the main character, and while that was riveting and sad and the writing was incredible, I wasn't getting the wow factor. But THEN the last couple hours of the audiobook hit and I cried so much and it really brought everything together. I love when books are able to do that. 

I've never read David Copperfield so I can't speak to how this is as a rewrite, but it stands up beautifully on its own.
