Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
4.0
adventurous funny fast-paced

My granddad lent me this book when I was like 13 and I have no idea why. It's so For professional programmers, I definitely didn't Get It at the time. A decade later I'm a professional programmer so now I Get It. I will say this book clearly contributed to the profession's ongoing ego size problem. There's a degree to which this book is like Sword Art Online for white collar computer dudes. Everyone wishes they were a member of the "technological priesthood" with a katana.

This book is incredibly dense with fun ideas but I don't think they're all worth implementing in real life. What I think it boils down to is that Stephenson understood that people would want to make their VR avatars a penis, and until I can do that I don't want whatever Mark Zuckerberg is trying to sell me.
