Reading Rachel Cusk is not like reading any other fiction. It’s meandering and contemplative. She lets you flow through the character’s life like a lazy River using conversation and observation rather than plot. We exist entirely in the narrator’s head. It shouldn’t work, but it does - it is effective and compelling and gives the reader an entirely new way of digesting plot and character. You’ll literally start to narrate your own life in your head in her voice, which is fun and slightly annoying.
