You Know Me Well by David Levithan, Nina LaCour
3.0

Mark, a baseball player, and Kate, an artist, have only ever known one another in passing at school, but after running into each other while out in San Francisco for Pride events they become fast friends and confidants. Mark is dealing with his feelings towards his best friend Ryan, while Kate is struggling with apprehension over her future and her admiration for a girl named Violet. We join Mark and Kate for just a handful of days as big events happen rather quickly and their lives change.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I didn't NOT like it, but it's not something I'll read again or rush to recommend to my friends. I found myself a little bored, and I had trouble really caring about the characters (especially in the beginning; I cared more towards the end). However, I would recommend this to some of the teens I work with as a public librarian. I loved that Mark's and Kate's (and other characters') sexualities just WERE; it wasn't something that needed to be explained or expounded upon. This is a story about regular teens dealing with regular angst--and they happen to be queer. I thought the raw, fiery, overwhelming emotions we all experience during our teen years were handled and described with sensitivity (and accuracy! I remember these emotions!) and the writing was beautiful--lots of good quotes to be found in here!
