Twisted Betrayal
by Siobhan Davis
This series was the first ever books I had read by Siobhan Davis and the enemies to lovers genre is my all time favourite. The initial story was what got me hooked into the book with all its twists and turns, never knowing what to expect. The cliffhanger was what sealed the deal for me to get the next book.
We see our heroine go through much more trauma and grief and betrayal all leading to the conclusion. From being kidnapped, to being kidnapped and kidnapped again whilst also suffering at the hand of her father and his demands, Abby and Cam have had one hell of a journey.
As much as I enjoyed the storyline, this second book ended with more questions than the first one. Though much has been explained each individual characters secrets and all around attitude in the story had become quite tiring. Abby, a feisty and strong minded girl is left in a world dominated by men who all seem to have a hidden agenda. It appeared that she couldn’t trust anyone and reasons behind why she couldn’t be told the full extent of the secrets all revolved around ‘it’s to keep you safe’. At one point it became quite frustrating as everyone in her life seemed to be making decisions about her, for her. She kept repeating to herself that she couldn’t trust people and every time she gave an inch, something bad had to happen. All her family and friends seemed to have some sort of background she wasn’t privy to. The repetition in this made me a drop down a rating star.
Abby’s father: I’ve heard of cruel people and vile people and downright inhuman people but this guy was on a whole other level of evil. It became apparent in this story that her dad was always going to be one step ahead of her no matter what she did. And the things he’s done just kept getting worse, slightly unrealistically. The story revolves around his actions towards Abby, his own daughter, though explained in a way it was difficult to see where the main characters would find their way out of this. Putting myself in her shoes, I would’ve given up a long time ago.
I also felt her relationship with Cam was confusing. At one point she was adamant she hated him but also got jealous of him speaking to other women and acted on this jealousy in quite an immature manner. I would have liked to see her sit back and take some time to think about her next moves rather than jumping into things and staring screaming matches only to end up getting dragged from place to place by different people. He wasn’t always open with her and I think that caused a lot of problems in their relationship, not that they learned from it. They kept getting placed in difficult situations and it didn’t seem they would get their happy ever after at times.
Lastly, the camera in the handbag! I don’t know what I expected but it wasn’t that. That was kind of the last straw for me. It should have been a huge red flag for who put it there and how not so different they may be from her cruel father and his friends and how she should’ve stuck to her instinct to not trust anyone.
As much as this book had become unrealistic for me towards the end I am also a fan of HEA and can not wait for the point where our characters can be together without all the drama. Bring on the final book.
