I get that King pulled this from publication for obvious reasons, but who approved this in the first place?
SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE PLOT AND WHY THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST BOOKS THAT I HAVE EVER READ:
TW: SCHOOL SHOOTINGS
A kid kills 2 teachers and holds his class hostage. He then proceeds to just sit and talk to his classmates for hours about his parents and personal life, and then the kids start nonchalantly talking about their high school sex lives for some reason. Literally EVERY other kid in the class doesn't act scared at all of the fact that they are being held hostage by a kid with a gun that just killed 2 people, and they all just act normally and carefree as if they aren't in the middle of a life or death situation. There is ONE guy in the entire class who isn't immediately on the shooter's side and who is actually taking the situation seriously and makes any attempt to stop him or point out the fact that the shooter isn't a good guy, this one guy is painted as the villain throughout the entire book (which was understandable seeing as the whole book was told from the shooter's perspective) but then at the end of the book EVERY OTHER KID IN THE CLASS turns on this one guy, tells him he's a horrible person for "wanting to be the hero and save them", they all beat the shit out of him, humiliate him, and then the shooter lets them all walk out bc "they all taught this kid his lesson". The shooter then gets declared insane so he doesn't even go to jail or anything..... meanwhile the one guy in the class who stood up to try and stop the shooter and then proceeded to get ganged up on and beaten by his classmates ends up in a semi-catatonic state that the doctors think he will never recover from. Like what even did I just read. Horrible.
