Lucy Goosey you have done it again 👏
I have described reading Lucy Score books to my friends as like eating Junk Food. There is so much serotonin in a single bite, admittedly some shame, but more than anything just the insatiable need to keep going until the bag is empty.
But this one is so very different.
I loved Lucy's other books and while they were never completely without a deeper meaning I would also never group these books within the level of deeper meaning as I do those of Emily Henry, Abby Jimenez, and Ashley Poston.
But this one is the exception.
Diving into the psyche of a man who is very much still embedded with the ideology that he shouldn't speak his feelings aloud, while gripping with so much emotional turmoil and put him with a girlie who deflects from having to take any action by being too deep in her feelings is something Lucy does a lot.
But they never spoke it out like this.
since the third act conflict that was so reminiscent with that of Things We Never Got Over I have to take a minute to discuss as well how much I hate having so much fun with Lucy's formula to her romances.
I think it is this ridiculous formula of unbelievably volatile man and heavily lovable Woman that's made it so easy to tolerate her third act break ups.
I do believe this campy writing style also made it so this is the first romance I read in a while about a slumpy author trying to write a book on a deadline that didn't feel like a long winded vent about their own personal slump.
overall, this is probably objectively not a five star read but I cannot deny my heart's desire.
Goodbye Sexy Viking HELLO Captain Pouty Man Bear.
