I really messed up by reading the reviews of this book before reading the book. I was so looking forward to it as Weyward by the same author is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. I expected the reviews to be stellar, and they weren’t. It clouded my judgement of this book in a big way that I didn’t anticipate. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more had I not read the reviews.
Weyward felt like the perfect book to read in the fall with its little bit of witchiness. The Sirens felt great for summer, with all the merrows and water and seaside town content. I hope Hart writes something perfect for spring or winter next!
The Sirens doesn’t hold a candle to Weyward, that’s for sure. But Hart’s feministic themes and expertly done perspective shifting from chapter to chapter shine again in Sirens. I’m not usually one to intentionally seek out multiple books by the same author; nevertheless, I look forward to reading whatever the next Emilia Hart book may be.
