i loved reading this so much. i have never been religious but i have come to understand that shame and guilt are almost foundational in catholicism which was ever present in sophie’s life but she was such a strong protagonist. the touches of feminism and the discussions of religious fanaticism was just SO SO good. i knew about half way through i’d be crying and by god i was not disappointed
