A great second installment that takes the story from book 1 into interesting places and rounds out the cast in a great way. El’s character development and the turn of the premise on itself is what great sequels should aspire toward, and I was cheering at how some of the climax played out.

The narration was great, especially at divvying out the various lilts and accents.

This book would be higher rated than it already is if not for Novik’s prose and insistence on piling on the worldbuilding even when it takes the momentum out of a scene. It’s just really wordy.
