Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling
3.0

I really enjoyed the first half of this book. I like a lot of things about it: it feels very old-school fantasy, straightforward but complex enough to be interesting. I can even deal with Seregil being a bit of (okay, a lot of) a Mary Sue, because that, too, feels very old-school. But once we get to Rhiminee and the plot moves away from the cursed disc, I, unfortunately, start to get bored.

You may notice that it took me a really long time to read this book. I read the first half in a couple of weeks (which is my normal pretty slow pace), and the latter half took me months to get through. I do want to continue this series because there aren't that many old-school fantasies with gay protagonists, and I think we're going to get back to the plot in the first half of this book that was interesting to me. But in Rhiminee, Seregil's more annoying qualities take center stage, and I just could not get interested in the plot we were offered to replace the first one.
