I picked this book up after seeing quick a few different groups recommend it as a brilliant read. Unfortunately I didn't this book just stand out. There are strong, 21st century feminist values throughout the book that don't quite fit the 50s/60s timeframe; stock standard plot device tropes; and the whole mood felt more depressing given how women are still treated rather than humourous. I appreciated the chemistry puns and there were some wonderful soliloquy quotes in this well written book - it's just a shame neither the plot nor setting were deeper and less drama filled.
