The Light of All That Falls by James Islington
5.0
“Faithful people suffer and evil people prosper all the time, Davian—you must know that is true. Besides, if our actions are driven only by reward or punishment—eternal or otherwise—then they are motivated by greed and selfishness, not faith or love.”
A great ending to a great trilogy. I sure hope we can get that promised spin-off in the author's note after Islington is done with Hierarchy, I'd definitely like to come back to this world.
While I cannot say I was particularly surprised by the turn of events and how it all played out (most I did figure out on my own throughout the adventure), I wouldn't necessarily say it's a bad thing. It's the journey that is important and not the end, and all that. Not every book or every series needs to wrap it up with a bang in the last 50-100 pages and The Licanius Trilogy definitely hammers that home.
I enjoyed the writing style of Islington throughout, I'm definitely a sucker for Davian and Caeden <3 and while the book was almost 900 pages, it wasn't sluggish or hard to go through. Especially if you binge the whole series.
A definite recommendation to anyone who enjoys epic fantasies, well-handled time travel and world-destroying stakes. And a morally grey character or two. ;)
