Red Hood
by Elana K. Arnold
This took me some time to get into the story but once it got going this was really good!
Elana K Arnold takes all the tropes of the Little Red Riding Hood story and uses them to make a very strong commentary about rape culture and toxic masculinity.
I will say that this isnt for the squeamish or the faint of heart because there are very detailed descriptions about blood and sex (both consensual and nonconsensual) but thats what I loved about it, the fact that Arnold didnt hold back.
I also loved the 2nd person writing style. It did take some time to get used to but once it clicked it really immersed me into the story and put me in the mind of the main character. I also felt like it fit well with the story because it emphasizes the theme, that everyone in some way is affected by rape culture and toxic masculinity.
Overall this was such a compelling and engrossing story and one that I highly recommend for both its content and the experimental way Arnold constructs the story.
