I received a beautiful edition of this in a Fairyloot box, and I had not heard about this prior to opening it. I was excited to discover this story follows witches; something I normally enjoy. Although I think this book is well-written and has great themes, I was not personally blown away.
"Her Majesty's Royal Coven" follows a group of witches who are trying to prevent a civil war from breaking out amongst Her Majesty's Royal Coven. Many moons ago, a group of young witches swore their allegiance to Queen Elizabeth I and this coven was created as a government agency. Now, in modern day, there a opposing views about how the coven should operate, and who should be let in.
I was initially really into this story, but somewhere along the way it lost me. This book did not do anything inherently wrong: it was written fine, the characters had multiple facets, and there was pushback from characters regarding discrimination or hate. I think perhaps it was just too long and explored too much of the "wrong" things.
This book is very okay: a fine read, but nothing I will be thinking about for months to come.
