Imaro by Charles Saunders

4.0

Imaro is set in an African setting following the titular protagonist Imaro. As a fan of Conan I found this to be entertaining and thoughtful. The author had obviously put some thought into the world building and how it shaped the characters. Characters in different places had different customs and even their own languages that set them apart. One thing I ended up not loving as much was Imaro’s place in the story. He felt like a chosen one going along a journey to defeat evil as opposed to Conan which was more like a series of adventures that Conan went on. I prefer the latter but Imaro isn’t bad either.
