Bro. I had to sleep on this book after I finished it at 5:15 AM (yes, I stayed up that late). I was handling things well until I reached the twist I should have seen coming. The number of times I mouthed “oh my God!” should be studied.
This book is so SO good. It was highly anticipated and rightfully so. I cannot thank The Smuthood enough for offering it as an ARC and Santana Knox enough for selecting me for it. Somehow, it’s even better than I thought it would be. It’s so emotional and the very definition of a rollercoaster, but it’s also really sweet at times.
I got attached to the characters from the very beginning, and their derby names were just the icing on the cake. I can’t even choose my favorite; best I could do is have a top 5. You can’t help but root for everyone; especially Mads and Havoc. Related: I was NOT rooting for Leonard. I swore at him several times.
The epilogue deserves its own section in this review. Through all the rest of the emotion, I was fine. Calm, cool, collected. But that epilogue broke me in two in the best of ways. I’m still thinking about it hours later, and I know I will be for quite some time.
I received a copy of this book directly from the author via The Smuthood and this is my honest review. I fully plan to go back and read the rest of Santana’s books because this one will stick with me. 5 stars, genuinely.
