Lucy is in every possible way flawed but can anyone judge her for it? This is definitely smth that's going to pierce or completely miss someone's heart I'll definitely have to read it again to let it occupy mine completely
It's so tender and bittersweet if the author uses Lucy in any form as a fill in then I fear that I've found my emotional companion who breathes the same melancholy and softness
Every character is treated with such profound love and respect despite their wrongdoings that are laid bare to us
I only wish there was a bit more introspection into Lucy's teen years mostly her friendships then and now bc even if her friends were and continue to be horrible Lucy rarely contemplates why she acted the same I know it used to be more of an act plus she is self occupied and centered (so am I so I understand) still it would have been nice to show the difference by appreciating her new friend group in contrast to her old one or smth
Nearing the last quarter of the story I've put away the book for a long time fearing the inevitable bc that lingering possibility of this future is dreadful to me
The horror of it all is described beautifully and has been felt deeply I've read certain word choices over and over again especially the last one "tender punishment" just expresses it so harrowingly
I wholeheartedly love Martin as much as lesbians are able to he's not a caricature of the evil heteronormative man who's the obstacles (Lucy is and I love that it is acknowledged) he's grown into a lovely person I wonder who he might be based on
