I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens, 1980
by Lauren Tarshis
Follow the events of the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens through the eyes of Jessie, an 11 year old girl who lives in the shadow of the mountain.
This was an informative, fictional account of a significant natural disaster that occurred in 1980. I did not know really anything about this event before reading the book, so I feel like I gained some insight into what happened. I am happy the author wrote from a girl's perspective finally, though I totally understand why she chose to write from the perspective of boys for so long. The story itself was a bit lackluster and for being based on a real natural disaster that took so many lives, it ended way too perfectly for me. That being said, I think this is an interesting series and I love that educates young readers on history!
