Out of Love by Hazel Hayes

I will miss this book. I feel like the book is breaking up with me by ending. :')

Admittedly, from the beginning as the protagonist described her break-up with Theo, and her interactions with him towards the end, I was just like... girl, what are you doing? Why are you with this chump? However, as the story slides back through time, you learn more about her, him, their difficult pasts, and family situations. It becomes clearer why she feels the way she does for him, and it's clearer why she'll move on.

The very last part, where she's going home after meeting him and thinking of him, imagining what her life would be like with him in it, all the moments they could share, all the cups of tea, made me cry. There were several more appropriate places to cry during this book, but that's the one that got me.

The audiobook is narrated by the author, and it is absolutely one of the best readings I've listened to. It feels so personal. I will absolutely read (or hopefully listen to!) any novel she writes next.
