The Dark Days Deceit
by Alison Goodman
I have to say, it was a pleasure to read a series written by someone who actually cares about the period they're writing in! The Lady Helen series is rich in historical detail and it's not just window-dressing – the social mores and expectations of the time are deeply woven into the characters and plot and cause genuine issues for the heroine, rather than being mere lip service which can be waved away on a whim. I also want to applaud Goodman on following through and ; it was an unusual choice but it worked really well, and I appreciated the commitment to narrative integrity. A fantastic series and definitely a new favourite. I look forward to reading more by this author!
