The Golem and the Jinni, by Helene Wecker
3.0
This was a good book, and a good read, but for me it ranged from 2 to 4.5 stars. It was a beautiful setting, and the characters were very enthralling. I want to read more about them.
However, I wanted more. I wanted more interaction between the golum and the jinni. I wanted to know more about golums and jinnis overall. I wanted more focus on their golumness and jinniness.
A lot of times, it felt just like a look into normal boring days in New York. Plain, boring people going about their plain, simple lives.
Audiobook: The narrator has an old voice, which was a bit jarring at first (as I had thought the book was set in 21st century New York), but it seems apt for the setting of the book. Lovely, soothing voice.
Huge downside - he stops for a long time between sentences, and that really got on my nerves. And then, he barely pauses between changes in view points. Extremely annoying.
