When the few female characters in this book are one dimensional wives and mothers, only notable for either haranguing their husbands or getting abused by them, it all gets to be a bit much. Besides which, the writing wasn’t particularly great (think dollar store Stephen King), so I’m surprised I lasted as long as I did. Oh well.
