I'm too old and cranky for this kind of book, but it still managed to touch my heart. A beautiful story about love, friendship and, you guessed it, clinical depression.

This book is like a slow rumination on what depression does to you and to the people around you, and how it warps your reality until you feel like you have no options anymore. Especially when you're just leaving adolescence and figuring out many of your beliefs don't make sense anymore.

I liked how the book escaped obvious cliches and felt very much tethered to reality, even during its more "this is definitely a ya book" moments. Overall, though, this book was for a younger me, I wish she had read it. Older me enjoyed it, but thought some parts were too rushed and the pop culture references too many. A great read, though.
