The Woman in Me by Britney Spears

dark emotional funny hopeful informative inspiring sad tense fast-paced

I was a little hesitant to read this book at first, because I assumed the read wasn’t going to be a Happy Fun Time.

..it is definitely not a Happy Fun Time. But it’s an emotional, eye opening, inspirational good time. This book sucked me in from beginning to end. She tells you about all the important moments in her life. Her family history, growing up in Louisiana, doing talent shows as a child and getting her big break at like 15. Bam. Everything falls into place. Mickey Mouse Club. Record deal. Hit Me Baby One More Time. Errr Justin Timberlake (boo, Justin!) She talks about so many performances that you need to pause just so you can Google everything and rewatch it all over again. The performance with the snake. The Matching Denim Outfits. Kissing Madonna.

I was originally hesitant to get the audiobook because I always enjoy it when an author is narrating their own memoir. However Michelle Williams did SUCH an incredible job! She added the perfect amount of sincerity, humour, and heartfelt emotion to the narration, and I was so impressed. Britney did narrate the prologue but (so sorry) as an audiobook fan, narrating is not Britney’s forte. But that’s okay, because her book was a wild, utterly shocking ride. And at the end of it all, I was left devastated, but also filled with joy that Britney is finally free. Enjoy your life, queen!
