I will say, this was not perfect. BUT if a crime thriller can make me laugh, cry, gasp, rage, and think about the state of society?
This had everything I’d want and more - it hooked me, it had a cast of interesting characters, it had a few (believable) twists and turns, it explored poverty and social inequality, it had unique tangents that we saw through each characters’ perspective, and I could not stop telling my partner about the stupid - and strange to me - actions of especially one of the characters.
I enjoyed reading this so much once I’d established all the characters in my mind, and I was hooked to the end. I didn’t love the last ‘showdown’, I think it made it cinematic in a way which the rest of the novels just ‘is’, but I can understand the expectation to have a big ending. Overall, a 4.5⭐️ read.
