The Word Is Murder by Anthony Horowitz

5.0

As a person who doesn't enjoy first-person narratives, this book was an exception at catching and holding my attention. Throughout the book, I was racking my brain to discover the killer's identity and thoroughly enjoyed Horowitz's journey to becoming an amateur detective. It was impressive to see the author committing to Hawthorne's negative aspects and not making excuses on the latter's behalf. At times, it almost seemed like Horowitz was attempting to showcase his own views on social issues without explicitly stating them. Lastly, I admired the author's awareness about having a few shallow characters and taking ownership of that towards the book's end.
