I am between a 4.75 and 5, so I will leave it here. The book itself is a 5-star, but since I only really cared about Vis and Callidus, had issues with Emissa, and found the ending a little confusing, it's 4.75 for now.
Explanation of my issues with EmissaKnew Emissa was up to something (and was happy about it because it is interesting), and while I see how some may think she didn't mean to hurt Vis, I think it's more interesting for her to be an antagonist moving forward. She obviously knows more than she lets on, and both Vis and the reader were warned multiple times that she is not to be trusted. There is no doubt in my mind that she was sent to the stables and told to get close and silence Vis by either her father or Principalis Veridius. On top of all of this, I do not think her character is fleshed out very much; she's only seen as "nice", "pretty", and "smart". She doesn't make any mistakes (the lagoon doesn't count). This is clear when you compare her to Aequa, who is a much more robust character.
