Mercy by Michael Palmer, Daniel Palmer

4.0

MERCY is another of Michael Palmer’s medical thrillers, this one about a serial killer in a hospital setting who is administering lethal doses of medication to critically ill patients. One of the main characters, Dr. Julie Deveraux is engaged to be married to Sam Talbot when he is in a terrible accident and rendered a quadriplegic. As Sam is dealing with the first terrible weeks and months of his diagnosis and coming to terms with the psychological impacts of what it will mean to live with his condition, Julie is grappling with her former stance as a physician that people with injuries like Sam’s should be allowed to choose their own death. And then… the story gets even more intense. This had lots of heartbreaking angles to examine. 4/5 stars.
