To Love Jason Thorn by Ella Maise

4.0

To be honest, I really enjoyed this book. I really enjoy the brother’s best friend trope, as well as the childhood-friends-to-lovers trope. I think the dynamic between Jason and Olive was pretty well done & definitely realistic, with Olive thinking she is clingy and annoying and Jason not realizing he was in love with her until later. Because, let’s be honest, it’s not very realistic if *both* parties were in love with each other from the very beginning, especially with the age difference.

However, there was a few things that keeps me from giving it anything higher than a 4/5. For one, the first few chapters focusing on their childhood seem out of place. I get that she’s giving backstory/context, but they do not seem like they belong in the story. As well the scene where he gives her an orgasm when she was like blackout drunk made me uncomfortable. Yes, she was encouraging it but she was also way too drunk to consent; it’s different if you’re in a committed relationship but they were nothing at this point. They had never had sex. It was so odd and I wish it wasn’t in the book.
