I was a little surprised that this book was published in 2023 because the themes, references, and setting really felt like being an awkward nerd in 2006-2010. I think the author did a great job balancing the personal development of the character and the romance plot. It did feel a bit like the male lead didn't have his own flaws to work on. I was a bit torn on how to rate/review this because it reminded me so much of cringier times in my life that I struggled to enjoy it, but I think that's more about me than the author's work. The writing style is very simple and matter of a fact and that adds to the realism and feeling like you are reading about a high schooler.
