Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson

I loved this book! Erik Larson's historical account of the sinking of the Luistania is fascinating. Like the author himself, I thought it was this incident that dragged the US into WWI, but it wasn't (it's much more complicated than that). That's just one of the many things I learned reading this book. I kept sharing bits and pieces of it with my Dad - the incredible survival stories, the near misses, the failures of the British Admiralty, etc.

For any history bluff, this book would make a fantastic gift.
