All Things Wise and Wonderful by James Herriot

5.0

Another winner! These books combine two of my very favorite things: learning about people's lives and animals! So. Dang. Good.

Just like the other books in this series this one was filled with charming stories about the Yorkshire Dales and the industrious vet who drove his little car from farm to farm helping animals. Some of the practices are very outdated and many seem cruel by today's standards, but the clear love that James, Tristan and Siegfried have for animals is palpable and heart warming. I especially enjoyed the story of a stray dog who was hit by a car on the night of a big party, or the emotional tale of a cat who appeared on a kindly couple's doorstep with a very special Christmas gift. Yes I cried at work again. I refuse to feel ashamed.

Herriot's writing was again up to snuff, his voices and imagery vivid and his turn of phrase skillful. He writes in a style I just devour.
