What a beautiful book to finish reading on the first day of Pride month! The author’s note at the end is where my tears came. As someone who grew up with Harry Potter and is now parenting a daughter discovering the magic of Harry Potter, I’ve been thinking a lot about how to reconcile such an incredible story and lessons with an author who holds such hateful views and is actively using her wealth to inflict harm on the trans community. So, TJ Klune dubbing themself the “Anti-JK Rowling” was a nice bow to end this story. I fell more in love with the characters in this book; I hadn’t connected with them the same way in the first one. The messages of love, acceptance, and pride were deeply appreciated in this divisive moment we now find ourselves in. Really enjoyed it.
