”Bastian unfolded like a book and a small smile lifted on my lips. It was a city of stories. But not all of them had happy endings.”

IT’S NOT A BAD BOOK, it’s just not for me. i really wanted to like this, but it took me three long days to read this, with taking a break every few pages or chapters. i think i only binged it this evening because i really wanted to finish it.

”I see a girl hiding beneath silk skirts. Makes me wonder what you’re afraid they’ll see.”

bryn was okay character for me to read about, nothing too special. i liked her, she was decent. same with any other character. henrik, on the other hand, was getting on my nerves.

“I’d spent my life pretending to be a soft thing with petals. A thing that grew in the sunlight. But I was beginning to wonder if I was a creature of darkness, like the faces that sat around my uncle’s table.

now, ✨romance✨ this author, specifically in this series /it’s the only one i’ve read of hers/ writes kind of instalove/attractions. you don’t get too much scenes between fmc and mmc and suddenly they are in love. somehow that didn’t bother me in fable, we had two books for their happy ending, but with this one? …… she had more chemistry with her cousin, murrow than with ezra. or at least, that’s how i felt.

“I started thinking I could leave, too.” “You still can.” “That was before.” “Before what?” “Before I had a reason to stay.”

the story as a whole was just not completely captivating, some parts were too much and i felt overwhelmed. yes, in a 300 pages book. like, bryn was going from zero to hundred in a span of seconds. one second she is all for her family and legacy, and the next she is plotting against? get it together girl.
