I selected this as one of my Book of the Month selections.
"The Wedding People" follows a woman named Phoebe. Phoebe arrives at a gorgeous inn, and is mistaken for one of the guests that are there for a very elaborate wedding. Phoebe's life has taken a heartbreaking turn, and she has lost all hope. She does not believe she can pick up the pieces of her shattered ideas for her life. She has dreamed of coming here with her husband, and enjoying a weekend of relaxing luxury, but now she is here alone, and she has been thrust into this wild wedding world.
Phoebe was such an enjoyable character to read about, because I found her to be so relatable. Her life is far from perfect, and she is facing a lot of very challenging things. She also has such a blunt personality, and I thought it really helped with contrast to the other characters in this book. A wedding is supposed to be one of the happiest days of a persons life, so, having an outsider who is on the verge of ending it all was almost comical in a dark way.
I really enjoyed the message of this novel. Life is challenging, and it rarely ends up how we expected it. Every character in this novel experiences that sentiment to an extent. But, just because things do not end up how we originally envisioned, does not mean that life is not beautiful. You can always find something new to make everything feel a little more worthwhile.
I highly recommend this novel to anyone that enjoys a little dark humor with their positive motivation.
