Disturbing The Body
by Nici West
‘‘Beware the fury of a patient Delmirian…’’
Unfortunately this second book was a drag. Absolutely nothing of importance happened, or it seemed to mainly happen off page, until the last 100 pages. Still strong Blood and Ash vibes, except not nearly as captivating, and Wilder was wildly disappointing until the very end. Maybe less of his perspective would have helped because hearing his constant inner turmoil and whining made me lose all respect for the "god fearing" warrior he was supposed to be.
‘‘Thea didn’t have a pocket of calm in her entire body; she was a living storm of chaos.’’
I was hoping in book two, figuring it would be a big foundation book, we would get more backstory on the realm, the daughter of darkness, and the other kingdoms. Sure, we got glimpses during Thea's dreams but we learned barely anything until the last couple of chapters. Huge missed opportunity to world build and buildup the plot.
‘‘Wilder went to them, letting the shadows whip around him, as though he didn’t fear the darkness, as though it were a part of him.’’
What can a girl do to get a consistently good freaking fantasy series over here?! Well we will hopefully call book two a hiccup because this book ended on a betrayal (it was pretty damn obvious the entire book it was coming) and I love myself a good betrayal. So here's to hoping book three evokes the same emotions as book one and book two can be forgotten.
‘‘Where walks death, so does Althea Zoltaire.’’
