The Do-Over by T.L. Swan
1.0

was so excited for this book to come out after finishing the first three books in the series pretty much in one sitting each, but i literally just couldn’t finish this book. there was so much i didn’t like about it. the plot was all over the place and completely unrealistic. having just gone on a hostel-hopping trip around europe myself, you really can’t survive as a backpacker in spain by only working on the weekends. you can't make a full time salary in two days. you can’t continually return to the same hostel and share the exact same room with the exact same people each time. it just doesn’t work like that, and continually broke my suspension of disbelief. also there was so much woman-shaming in this book, which is so disappointing for a romance novel in 2022. can we move past criticizing women for their body hair decisions and their sexual activity levels?

i do want to note that i really loved all of the other books in this series. each one was so unique and well thought out, and i always liked that each of the characters from previous books had significant roles in the subsequent books in the series. all of the couples in the other novels seemed really complimentary to one another, and ended the novel transformed for the better. they were all great examples of enemies-to-lovers. so i do usually like T.L. Swan’s writing! this one was just surprisingly bad, and I called it quits after 30%.
